Putting it into practice: · Four 9th-grade students won the NBC Video contest for their DVD documentary on The Holocaust:Then and Now. · Kristin Ferrandino, a Fontbonne Hall sophomore, is the editor of her globally published e-magazine, Prim. · Thinkquest teams have placed in the finals or the semifinals each year since the beginning of the program . · The ICT student project has spilled into the World Language classrooms in other ways: students are using and developing podcasts for their study of Italian and Spanish. · Students begin e-profiles in their first year. · Students in the Computer Orientation class work with the school’s Learning Media Specialist to become skilled in accessing library collections and databases from the local libraries to the Library of Congress. · Students participate with Xaverian students in the robotics program.

Grade 11: Computer Applications for High School · With the use of Corel WordPerfect and Microsoft Office 2007, this course provides instruction in Microsoft Word ®, Excel ®, Powerpoint ® and desktop publishing. An emphasis on using the Internet as a research tool, and the designing of a personal web page are included. Grade 12: College.edu · This course enables students to master advanced formatting skills. Emphasis is on college-bound writing activities, such as college essays, profiles, formatting research papers and resumes. Students create multiple-page documents and merge documents with Microsoft Word ®, and create graphs and charts using Excel ®. Powerpoint ® is used for creating presentations and Access ® for databases. The use of the Internet for research and SAT preparation is studied. Grade 9: Computer Orientation (Required) · This course emphasizes the use of computers as a tool for students at school and home. Introduction to various applications, use of the Internet, subscription databases and other software related to students courses of study and the use of library media are provided. Grade 10: Thinkquest · Students enrolled in this class participate in a New York City competition that encourages and supports the development of educational web sites. Students use web page design software and the Internet as collaborative learning tools to create educational web sites in a variety of curriculum areas. Grade 10: Online Sources for Research and Study Skills (Required) · This web-based course gives students a personalized study plan in preparation for the SAT, PSAT, and Regents prep. This on-line prep course provides an instructional program that will strengthen content skills, introduce test-taking strategies and build confidence with short practice tests and full-length exams. In addition, this course will survey online search tools. Grades 10, 11: ICT (Information and Communication Technology) · Students and teachers work online with other schools in the area, and with a school in the United Kingdom to study the effects of global warming on Spanish-speaking countries. Students develop blogs, video clips and other multimedia presentations, including podcasts. |
