Putting it into practice:

 

· All chorus members participate in major concerts at Christmas and in the spring. Membership in the choruses is by audition.

 

· Select Chorus members and student instrumentalists are an important part of all Fontbonne Hall liturgies.

 

· Form and Analysis students give a recital each year as part of their coursework.

 

· Many Fontbonne Hall students have featured roles in school musicals and in productions at Xaverian High School.

 

· Kerry Butler star of many Broadway productions and WABC’s One Life to Live is an alumna of Fontbonne Hall.

 

· Fontbonne’s Select Chorus has appeared on television as part of local news coverage for the Christmas season.

Music Appreciation 

· This course is designed to give the students an exposure to music from the Middle Ages to the present. Students will increase their awareness and appreciation of various musical styles through listening, studying, and where appropriate, viewing performances of great works.

Vocal Ensemble

· This course is for anyone who enjoys singing.  Proper vocal technique is emphasized.  This includes correct diction, vowel pronunciation, ear-training (singing in harmony with accurate pitch), good breathing and independent singing.  Some sight-reading is also included.  The students will perform music that will span a variety of styles.  The students will also take part in musical performances throughout the school year.

Select Chorus

· This course is for students with advanced musical abilities.  Students must be able to sing harmony with ease and sing with proper intonation.  Three and four-part singing is learned and the music performed ranges from all different musical style periods, with moderate to advanced degrees of difficulty.

Form and Analysis I

· This class is opened to students based on an interview with the teacher to determine eligibility. Form and Analysis involves an in-depth study of various master works chosen from different periods in musical history. It involves studying the orchestral score of the work and analyzing how the composer constructed the piece. Form and Analysis I will focus on works from the Baroque and Classical Period..

Form and Analysis II

· A continuation of Form and Analysis I, this class is opened to students who have completed Form and Analysis I, and to new students based on a interview with the teacher to determine eligibility. Two different works will be studied from each of the following periods: Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Impressionistic as well as Early and Late Twentieth Century.

Form and Analysis III

· This is a continuation of Form and Analysis II. This class is opened to students who have completed Form and Analysis I and II, and to new students based on an interview with the teacher to determine eligibility. Form and Analysis III will focus on works from the Impressionist era and the Twentieth Century. Grades 10, 11, 12
