Mrs. Neli Brussi, instructor of Advanced Placement Italian and honors-level Italian courses was a presenter at the recent New York City and State Association of Foreign Language Teachers Annual Professional Conference. Assisted by Mrs. Joanne Greco, instructor of Spanish and Italian, Mrs. Brussi demonstrated some innovative uses of multimedia instruction for the foreign language classroom.

Alessandra Albano ‘13 appeared in the New York Times Metropolitan Diary on January 16, 2012.

Kayla Walsh ‘12  had “A Rockefeller Center Date” published in the New York Times Metropolitan Diary on January 1, 2012.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Report card night was a time for Fontbonne students to reap the rewards of their hard work. 86 exceptional students achieved Principal’s List honors. These students received an average of 95, with no mark lower than an 85. Students who attained Principal’s List honors were recognized with Breakfast with the Principals on December 13, 2011.

 

· The Class of 2011 was awarded  more than $17 million dollars, an average of more than $130,000 per graduate.

· Kristin Ferrandino (St. Francis de Sales), Class of 2011, editor of the e-zine prim was interviewed and filmed at Fontbonne by a team from 66 Minutes a news-journalism program broadcast in Paris, France. Kristin is one of three American teenage Internet entrepreneurs to be featured on the program.

Fontbonne course offerings include Advanced Placement or Saint John’s University  courses in every discipline, distance learning, and accelerated programs in the World Languages. A broad offering of electives includes Anthropology, Psychology, Law, AP Statistics and Marine, Environmental and Forensic Sciences. · Fontbonne was awarded a Toshiba America Foundation Grant for the purchase of a comparison microscope for use in Forensic Science.

· The Mother Saint John Fontbonne Scholars Program provides an intense program to better prepare our most gifted young women for college.

· Fontbonne students volunteer at least 15 hours of service each year. Service Scholarships are available for each grade level.

Text Box: Ms. Maura Kate Costello accompanied a group of Fontbonne students on a Columbus Day Hike to the summit of Mt. Beacon in Beacon, NY, as part of a high school contingent including students from St. Joseph by the Sea, Xaverian, Xavier, Fort Hamilton, St. Raymond’s and St. Saviour’s.  The group is part of the international Catholic movement, Communion and Liberation.

Danielle Gordon ‘11 completed basic training at the US Military Academy this summer. Her picture as she completed an exercise was featured on the cover of the new West Point Magazine.

Text Box: Student volunteers prepare to register arriving 9th-graders for their annual retreat. The Saturday date makes it possible for all Freshmen to make their retreat together, and begin to know each other in a non-classroom setting. Student activities include a plan to “Pay it Forward” and reflections on their call to be Women of Faith and Vision.
