130 English 11 

This full-year course focuses on the various genres encompassed in American literature.  Each unit of work features writing by American authors in line with historical events covered in U.S. History.  Further development of the skills taught in Grades 9 and 10 continue and PSAT, SAT and Regents preparation are taught in preparation for the ELA Common Core exam.

 

 

146 Advanced Placement English Literature and Composition

This year-long course, English Literature and Composition, prepares the student to take the Advanced Placement test in English given in May of each year. The AP exam is mandatory. To this end, the students study many representative works of proven literary worth from several genres and periods.  In addition, they concentrate on concise and effective use of language in their written assignments.

Week of September 17

AP Literature will continue their study of Act 1 and Act 2 of All My Sons. They will also receive a diagnostic test of the multiple choice section of the AP exam which must be completed for Monday, the 24th.
English 11 will complete "Bernice Bobs Her Hair" and will begin a second Fitzgerald short story, "Josephine: A Woman with a Past". They will also have class time to organize their presentations.

Week of September 10

Both AP and English 11 began the week by taking their summer reading tests. English 11 took theirs over two days. 
I reviewed my rules, regulations, and expectations with them.
All students will get an SAT Word of the Day. They will be quizzed after every fifteen words.
On Wednesday AP started their study of Miller's All My Sons.
On Thursday English 11 started their study of Fitzgerald's "Bernice Bobs Her Hair". They were given topics of the Jazz Age to research with presentations due Monday, the 24th.
